Freedom in Christ

By: William W. Hull

Rom 8:1-2

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

(KJV)

What is freedom? Simply put, freedom is the absence of slavery; the ability to do and go as one desires. What freedom in Christ do we, as Christians, enjoy that the rest of the world is lacking? Freedom from the Law of Sin and Death which began in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve.

Gen 2:17

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

(KJV)

With the first sin,

Gen 3:6

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

(KJV)

Adam and Eve set the wheels of the Law of Sin and Death in motion.

Gen 3:16-19

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

(KJV)

Good News!!

John 8:36

36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

(KJV)

Praise God we’re free from the Law of Sin and Death!! By the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, we have been made heirs according the promise that God gave to Abraham.

Gal 3:24-29

24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

(KJV)

Our freedom was not cheap. Jesus paid for it with His life. Freedom also requires a sacrifice on our part. Faith and Followship.

Rom 6:22-23

22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(KJV)

We must be willing to follow Jesus no matter how difficult things become.

Gal 5:1

1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

(KJV)

 When the Enemy comes to steal your faith, remember Calvary, look to God’s word for strength, and STAND FAST. Ephesians chapter 6 is a good starting place for finding what to do when Satan pulls an assault.

Eph 6:13-18

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints

(KJV)

Be confident of victory in Christ Jesus our Lord. He has already won!!!
