Exodus 14:13
13 And Moses said to the
people, "Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the
Lord, which He will accomplish for you today..." (NKJV)
Many questions arise in
the Christian life and, most of the time; the answers bring about more
questions. Honestly, that used to be a big source of frustration for me.
Recently, though, I asked God why His answers usually contain more
questions. His answer to that really made sense to me. He said, "How can
you find the right answers if you don't know the right questions?"
(There He went with
another question!) But think about it. Without the right questions, we
could never find the answers that lead us to a Godly life. The question
of what salvation really is happens to be one of the right questions.
Unfortunately, we seem to think we have that subject completely covered.
Allow me to raise a few more questions for your consideration on this
topic. What is Salvation and its true depth? We all know that salvation
means we will be with the Lord in Heaven after we die. His blood was
shed for our sins so we don't have to pay the price.
Isa 53:5
5 But he was wounded for
our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement
of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (KJV)
There are several other
verses that give us the blessed assurance that we will spend eternity
with our Lord in Heaven, but is that all there is to being saved? I
sincerely think not and we'll explore God's word to find out what He has
to say on the subject. Before we can understand the true depth of
salvation, we need to understand who we are in Christ. God's word says:
Gal 3:26-29
26 For ye are all the
children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as
have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew
nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor
female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ's,
then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (KJV)
Heirs? Heirs to what? We
are heirs to the promise that God gave to Abraham. (See the first half
of Deut. Chapter 28). In a nutshell, God promised to bless Abraham in
all that he did as long as Abraham served Him. Those promises are very
detailed and complete.
Deut 28:8-13
8 The LORD shall command
the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest
thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy
God giveth thee.
9 The LORD shall establish
thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou
shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.
10 And all people of the
earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they
shall be afraid of thee.
11 And the LORD shall make
thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of
thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
12 The LORD shall open
unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land
in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt
lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
13 And the LORD shall make
thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou
shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the
LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them (KJV)
I think it's good to be
an heir! Thank God for his mercy and grace that allows us salvation and
adoption into His dear family. Now that we know that we are Abraham's
seed, we can explore God's word to more fully understand what it means
to be saved. Meditate on these thoughts and prayerfully consider them.
Allow God to reveal the truth of His Word to your heart. Next month in
Salvation -- Part II, we will continue our exploration into the depth of
salvation. |
