If we take time to sit
down and honestly assess the priorities of our lives as individuals, we
would come to the conclusion, it seems, that we as individuals, are
ultimately what matters in life. Here, I caution you against a reaction
and ask you to hear me out. No doubt putting ourselves first is worldly
in nature and against the true Christ like nature (Gods nature). Adam
and Eve were punished with separation from God and with banishment from
the Garden of Eden for their version of being...ultimately what matters.
The wife, job, kids, money, car, home, neighbors, pastor, and church all
have a place in our lives but, those just mentioned, lack the power and
ability to grant forgiveness or promise eternal life. Do we know God
better than things in life? Are we at least striving daily to put God
first? His word says to "pray without ceasing", communication! How else
can we know God and the knowledge of His word? How can anything have
power in our lives without knowing? How do you effect familiarity
(that's a subject we'll deal with another time)? "Seek first the kingdom
of God'...sound familiar? You shall have no gods before me (I think
that's one of the Ten Commandments). It's obvious we're being told
something here! Ultimately what matters in this life (however long or
short it may be) is our personal, individual relationship with God, our
creator, spiritual father, and savior Jesus Christ. God demands to be
first in our lives and ultimately what matters. If any object (people,
situations or places) is our number one priority, then whatever it
is...takes the position of being ...our god. God gives us the choice.
Our number one priority in
life should be God. A personal, intimate relationship with our Lord,
after all is said and done, this is... ultimately what matters.
