Today's Society

By: Anna M. Hull

During the last few years, our nation has truly felt the oppression and harmful results of governmental, societal, and personal sins of its people. How long will the citizens of the US accept the moral decay that invades our society from governmental leaders to our youth?

In today's society, our children are being taught how to seek self-pleasure, indulgence, and false methods for handling problems that occur daily. How and where can our society and families teach our children self respect and control rather than self-indulgence and pleasure. First, we can begin to train our children about self control, provide sound solutions to daily problems, display proper conduct, encourage wise decision making, and teach them to serve others instead of themselves. This training MUST begin in the home. Secondly, public establishments in our society, such as church, school, clubs, work, etc. must support and continue this education.

Society has the responsibility of sharing in the discipline of community children to help them become responsible adults in all human affairs. I, as a concerned citizen, am embarrassed and abhorred at how the nation has been supporting such disgraceful propositions by our government concerning the future for our children. Condoms, birth control, and abortions are not the solution for having safe sex. Why don't we teach children to practice self control, have respect for their bodies, encourage abstinence, provide more information about sexually transmitted diseases or provide tours to hospitals to show them the outcome of promiscuity, or spend government expenditure on school and outdoor activities to keep the children out of trouble instead of funds used to buy condoms and abortions? We as a society and parents need to use harsher disciplinary actions towards those who choose to harm others by alcohol, drugs, guns, and knives. The youth in our nation are now rewarded with privacy and seclusion when they choose to harm and kill others. I believe if they are old enough to premeditate another persons harm or death, they are old enough to take the consequences of an adult trial and punishment. The government has been rewarding the children that are unrepentant for their crimes with small punishments, while the victims' families are striving to survive spiritually, physically, and financially. Guns and knives are not the problem, it's the power (person) that controls and uses them. The weapon is useless on its own, until a person uses it. Those who blame the materials, which the children use in harming others, are only deceiving themselves. If the youth chose to do the harm then they made a choice to break the law. Therefore the punishment must fit the crime. Acceptance towards lenient punishments for sin and crime, is this the outcome that our nation wants? How can we as a nation, society, and parents change this outcome? We can get more involved with our children in our homes, relationships, and society. Slow down from a fast track life and raise our children as much as we can. Instruct them to obey the laws of the land, to say no to alcohol, drugs, promiscuity, and fornication. The future of our nation depends on us as parents and concerned citizens to instruct our children and prepare them for the future. How we raise our children today will reflect on the generations after us. We have to acknowledge the sin and stop it in its track. We as a people need to get on our knees and pray to God for the healing of our nation, society, and youth.

2 Chr 7:14

14    If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

(KJV)
