I recently viewed a recorded
reenactment of our Lord Jesus’ Last Supper. You might say ok, big deal;
those reenactments are done every year. This one was different; this one
was done from the betrayer point of view, from Judas Iscariots
perspective. The person known to modern day man as the person who
betrayed Jesus. If you asked 10 people (5 Christians, 5 non-Christians)
who Judas was, over half would be able to tell you that he betrayed
Jesus in the bible.
We don’t know much about the
motives in Judas’ mind. We do know that the thought of 30 pieces of
silver was a reason. One commentary suggests the treachery of Judas was
the result of a trend in his life. He had never taken an unselfish
interest in Jesus. His attitude gave an opening for satanic suggestion
and control (John 13:2,27).
We know that Satan entered
Judas. You must realize Judas gave the enemy permission to enter! From
this time on Judas continually looked for the right moment to betray
Jesus. When we give mental energy to any wrong doing, physical energy to
do the wrong is next and usually does occur, past the point of no
return. In other words you give permission for the wrong thoughts to
dwell – Satan enters or you allow your sinful human nature to rule the
situation (not Gods nature in you), next is the physical action – the
betrayal or sin.
Trends in our lives give
power to the enemy and ultimately, in varying degrees, the same
treachery. The Judas Syndrome: self-importance, self-serving, and self
above all else. Pornography, alcoholism, abuse, murder, rape and
thievery have all made the headlines; they are all growing trends.
People today are so self consumed that they disregard Jesus Christ as
the only cure for the Judas syndrome, a lot of people don’t even care.
You can be assured of this, many will scream for Jesus to save them on
judgement day, another trend, (call on God when all else you have tried
has failed, then, when God doesn’t recognize you, he gets the blame for
your dilemma).
A prayer for us all; God,
heavenly father, you sent a part of yourself, your son Jesus to die for
me on the cross, to take the sins of the world. Forgive me for setting
myself above all else, forgive me for putting myself on the throne only
you can occupy. Cleanse me Lord of the negative trends in my life. Help
me Lord to put you above all else, in thought, in word, in deed. I stand
on the promise you give in your word 1 John 1:9 – If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse all
unrighteousness. In Jesus name…Amen. |
